Migrating from MS Hyper-V to VMware ESXi

After 2 months of intensive use of Microsoft Hyper-V, finally I decided to migrate to VMware ESXi because MS is very very very very very very very sloooooooooooooow

I use Virtual Machines for developing and testing new components, so I need lot of (re)compilation using GCC for multiarch pourposes (amd64 CPU build i686 package).

I do lot of work on Hyper-V and I need to move my .vhd disk images to .vmdk.

First of all you need WinImage and you can use it to convert your .vhd to .vmdk.

But, believe me, you can’t use this new brand new piece of .vmdk directly on ESXi, because VMware server refuse to use it like virtual hard disk.

Not, don’t worry, you don’t need to burn you ESXi installation (yes, I do it… ). You just need a VMware Workstation installation, so you can use vmware-vdiskmanager to import your converted .vmdk to ESXi server.

Simply type:

vmware-vdiskmanager -server IP -u USER -f PASSWORDFILE -r CONVERTED.vmdk -t 4 “[DATASTORE_ON_ESXi]/YouRealDisk.vmdk”

and all will be OK

REMEMBER: ESXi don’t support IDE HD, so everytime you startup your machine, you got a warning… simply ignore it !!!!

Hi Guys !!!

This WE I just finished to setup my brand new 64bit processor with MS Hyper-V and lot of Linux Distros.

What this post mean ?!?!?!? Simply !!!! By now all packages I released on my Debian Repository will be available for amd64 architecture!!!

If you need some help with my packages, simply leave a mail !!!!

Hi guys,
I used for a long time this REPO to get updated WINE packages. Recently I noticed that packages for Debian are too older than Ubuntu and than current developer branch.

So I packaged my version of WINE for Debian

WHERE ?!?!?!?!? But on my repository, of course

Packages are for stable, testing, unstable, experimental !!!

cowbuilder and debian stable/etch

Hi guys, I’m now working to create an automatic process to download/build/package a lot of .deb filez. Compiling environment is made with cowdancer/cowbuilder, so I can use a virtual builder to create multi-distro packages (currently stable/testing/unstable/experimental). I got a strange error with cowdancer / stable build. When I try to compile a package, I got this strange error:

 Attempting to satisfy build-dependencies
 -> Creating pbuilder-satisfydepends-dummy package
cowdancer: .ilist size unexpected
cowdancer: .ilist size unexpected
cowdancer: .ilist size unexpected
cowdancer: .ilist size unexpected
cowdancer: .ilist size unexpected
sh: /tmp/satisfydepends-aptitude/pbuilder-satisfydepends-dummy/DEBIAN/control: Cannot allocate memory
E: pbuilder-satisfydepends failed.

So I can’t compile anything for stable distro I solved with a very little workaround. In my stable build command line, I used –debian-etch-workaround switch and, now, all works OK !!!
